As Turkish Language and Literature department we apply IB, DP program’s approach and Turkish Ministry and Educations’ (MEB) program together for all our classes starting from preperation to 12th grades. We aim our students to be international-intellectual minded, inquirer, respectful, principled, self motivated, co-operative and self evaluative.

 

Within this framework, we aim to:

 

  • give them insight that literature is an international language and one of the branches of art
  • help them become regular readers
  • introduce them to high quality literary works and help them develop their literary taste
  • make them able to produce arguments from what they read
  • make them understand and gain an insight from Atatürk’s principles via Turkish literary works and make them transfer these principles and cultural heritage to the future
  • make them understand and gain insight a range of literary works (poetry, story, novel, drama…) and to introduce them to the most important literary works
  • make them understand and gain insight a range of prose (essay, article, column…) and to enable  them develop  the habit of following periodics and newspapers, so they become aware of national and global issues
  • make them understand how social, political, economic, religious and geographical changes effect writers and literary eras
  • make them understand that writers’ starting points are personal and global issues
  • make them understand the features of literary works; “what” is said and “how” is said
  • enable them  to analyse the contribution of literary devices to the literary works and what is said beyond the text
  • make them understand the relationship between literature and cinema via watching literary adaptations
  • inform them about the terminology of literature and cinema
  • make them understand the features of theatre and make them an  intellectual audience
  • enable them to make  effective presentations using  language and the technological skills effectively
  • enable them to express themselves in range of prose and literary genres
  • make them express themselves in written and oral in  the most proper and effective way
  • enable them to acquire  good research skills and follow accademic honesty procedures
  • enable them to become  effective and respectful listeners in different environments
